The University of Vermont men’s basketball team will play host to a game in the ESPN BracketBusters series for the second straight season. The eight year old event, designed to give national publicity to mid-major programs, is set for February 19-20.
The Cats will be playing in the 98-team event for the fifth time. Last year they dispatched Buffalo at Patrick Gym in front of an ESPN2 audience.
Other America East schools invited to play in the BracketBusters are Boston University and New Hampshire, but Vermont is the only team that will play at home. The Catamounts will learn their opponent in January.
“We are once again thrilled for the opportunity to showcase our teams in BracketBusters,” said America East Commissioner Patrick Nero in a statement. “Last season was in many ways a banner year for the conference and Vermont’s win at home over Buffalo in front of a sellout crowd and a national television audience was certainly one of the highlights. This event gives us the opportunity to bring major excitement to our campuses and show the rest of the country the continued growth and improvement of America East basketball, which we expect to be even better in 2009-10.”
