Is UVM women’s hockey ready to turn corner?

by

The University of Vermont women’s hockey team hopes to qualify for the Hockey East playoffs for the first time this winter. In order to accomplish the goal, the Catamounts need to overcome two things:

— History. The Cats are a combined 19-77-4 overall and 10-50-3 in the Hockey East the past three seasons.

— Expectations. Vermont was picked to finish seventh out of eight teams in the Hockey East coaches’ preseason poll.

Here’s the audio from UVM coach Tim Bothwell’s remarks during today’s Hockey East teleconference, which includes a few questions from me.

Women’s hockey is a sport that UVM has pumped a lot of scholarship money into the past three years in hopes of contending on the national level. As Bothwell heads into his fourth season, is it unfair for Catamount fans to expect — or demand — better results?
